MHT Campaign Impact Report and Summer Updates

IMPACT REPORT

You are shaping a future for the Methow Valley where…

75 local families will own a home through the Methow Housing Trust.

22 acres of land will be held in trust for affordable housing, for our community, forever.

22 affordable rental units will be built through partnership between the Methow Housing Trust and the Housing Authority of Okanogan County.

A Message from the Director

We are a community that believes in belonging, and builds toward it. In times of adversity, we operate from an unyielding willingness to adapt, to innovate, to include and unite rather than exclude or polarize. Thank you to the 250+ households shaping the Methow’s housing future through participation in the Methow Housing Trust’s Campaign to Build Belonging. You made a statement that will have lasting impact.

Today, we celebrate progress made and the incredible inertia you have created. We are thrilled to be able to report that thanks to you, we WILL be able to build the 50 additional homes needed to meet the current demand for homeownership. We ARE moving forward with our partners at the Housing Authority of Okanogan County to help leverage 22 affordable rental apartments in Winthrop. And just this month, through a partnership with Hank and Judy Konrad, we acquired 12 shovel-ready lots in Twisp – the future home of MHT’s next Twisp neighborhood.  You made this all possible!

This campaign, and our work, will not come to an end until together, we have reclaimed a true sense of belonging for every member of our community:

In June, 54 Methow Valley School District seniors walked through graduation ceremonies.  Let’s be sure that they can imagine themselves truly belonging in their own hometown if they decide to stay or return.

Already, due to lack of housing options, many people have been displaced from our community.  Let’s be sure we create a pathway back.

Take a moment to consider the small local business and service providers you love and depend on.  Let’s be sure they have access to the workforce they need to keep their doors open, and their valued services robust.

Consider an older member of the community you care about. Let’s be sure that aging in place, among the people and landscapes that have defined us, is possible.

There is more work to be done, but we are headed in the right direction.  Thank you for your role in making the Methow a place of true belonging.

Partnering with the Methow Housing Trust to Build Belonging

The housing crisis we are facing in the Methow Valley and throughout the whole Okanogan County is a stark reality that is staring us in the face on a daily basis. The partnership between MHT and HAOC is a beautiful demonstration of how two agencies with similar goals, by joining together in their efforts, can double the opportunity for housing in just one development, thus changing the future of housing accessibility for so many families. MHT will be donating the land to HAOC and is putting infrastructure in place on those lots. This will give the HAOC a leg up as we seek funding for our multifamily development and will provide leverage for matching grants. Not only has the generous gift of the MHT considerably expedited our timeline but has also increased the odds, tremendously, in getting funded. Nancy-Nash Mendez, Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Okanogan County

We have always been committed to helping with local housing, but can’t do it alone. I have been watching what the Methow Housing Trust does with their program, and have two employees that already live in MHT homes in Twisp. MHT is fulfilling an important community need, and we want to help them continue to successfully build more homes for local folks as soon as possible. Methow Housing Trust’s Cascade Meadows Neighborhood Update (Winthrop)

At the Cascade Meadows South neighborhood in Winthrop, the final sale of the first 5 homes will close at the end of this month. Construction is well underway on the next 6 homes, and foundations were just poured for the final 5 remaining Cascade Meadow South homes. The build out of all 16 homes is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

Acquisition of land will allow MHT to build 11 more homes in Twisp

Thanks to a recent below-market sale of shovel ready lots by Hank and Judy Konrad to the Methow Housing Trust, 11 affordable homes – from one through four bedrooms – will be built 2023-2024 in Twisp. Read more about this exciting partnership here.
