Rooted in the heart of the Methow Valley, the Methow Housing Trust exists to develop and preserve permanently affordable, quality housing for our residents. Yet our work is about far more than structures, it is built on a foundation of permanence, stability, access, belonging, and agency for every neighbor who calls this valley home.
To fulfill this mission, we utilize the Community Land Trust (CLT) model. Under a CLT, the trust holds the land permanently in common ownership for the benefit of the community, while individual buyers purchase the home itself at an affordable price. This unique structure removes land costs from the purchase equation, making homeownership accessible to local residents across all walks of life. When a homeowner eventually chooses to sell, a resale formula balances a fair return on their investment with keeping the home affordable for the next local buyer.
Through this model, we achieve true permanent affordability: one home serves generation after generation of valley residents, protecting community land from speculative real estate pressure.
Looking forward, our goal is to build on this proven model by continuing to develop vibrant, energy-efficient pocket neighborhoods while simultaneously expanding our home preservation efforts. As the Methow Valley grows, we are committed to adapting alongside it by listening closely to the evolving needs and desires of our community. Whether families need in-town walkable neighborhoods, rural space for workshops, or support for unique living arrangements, we aim to meet those needs directly.
Together, we are ensuring that the people who shape the warmth, care, diversity and vibrancy of our valley have a permanent place to belong, thrive, and build the life they desire.
